Weekend Warriors Part 5 :Insulatate and then Inflate

February 10, 2012

Each day something new is getting done in our house.
I love this lightening speed we are moving along at!
Cross your fingers we don’t run into any glitches or find dead bodies stuffed in the floors.
That could set us back a bit.
Last weekend we had spray insulation put in the exterior walls and ceilings.
Prior to this, there was zero insulation in there.
 This house is old.
They didn’t use anything… besides news paper, and apparently cookie sheets in  the walls.
Along with the new windows, it is not only cool in the heat, warm in the cold, but also quite!
There is a huge improvement on the noise that we used to hear from outside.
In action

Finished

Once this was completed, we were able to start putting up the sheet rock.
 One room has walls now!
Only a couple more hundred square feet to go.

Super Bowl on a learning curve

February 8, 2012

Things I learned from the Super Bowl this year
–I had no idea there was more than one Manning
-Madonna needs to retire, however she looks pretty incredible for being old enough to be my mother
-The host of the party I attended had a questionnaire game for all the guests to play.
On it were things like:
1.      How many beer commercials will be shown?
Which I misread as “ How many commercials will be shown” causing me to drastically over shoot with my answer with 24.
2. Who will the MVP be?

Since I only know the names of a midget’s handful of players I answered “ Dan Marino”
(I have always been a big Ace Ventura fan.)
It was either him, or the guy who texted  photos of his junk, although I don’t know his name, just his crime.
Oh, or Tatupu.  His name is easy to remember

Obviously I didn’t win any prizes from this game.

-My buffalo chicken wing dip was delightful.
– Meatballs are apparently a football staple, as 3 different guests brought crock pots of them
-The Seahawks weren’t playing in this game
–The trophy everyone kissed & touched at the end of the game was given to an old woman who wishes she was Betty White
-Pretty sure that trophy contracted some kind of STD on it’s way down the field.

The Superbowl is baseball, right?

February 4, 2012

I don’t do sports.
 But, I do food.

Sike.
I didn’t make this.
But wouldn’t it be awesome if I had?!
Steve and I were invited to a friend’s house for Superbowl Sunday.
I decided to make a dish I haven’t had for a long time.
It is so easy to throw together and it tastes amazing.
Buffalo Chicken Dip:

Yield: About 12 servings
Prep Time: 10 minutes | Bake Time: 30 to 40 minutes

4 boneless, skinless chicken breast halves, boiled and shredded (or 4 12.5-oz cans of chicken breast, shredded)
12 oz. bottle of hot sauce
Two 8 oz. packages of cream cheese
16 oz. bottle of Ranch dressing
2 cups (8 oz.) shredded Monterey Jack or cheddar cheese (or a combination of both)

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Combine the chicken with the bottle of hot sauce and spread in a 9×13-inch baking dish (or any 3-quart baking dish).
3. In a saucepan, combine the cream cheese and the ranch dressing over low heat until the cream cheese is completely melted and smooth. Pour the mixture evenly over the chicken. Then sprinkle the cheese on top.
4. Bake uncovered for 30 to 40 minutes or until bubbly. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Trust me, it’s a crowd pleaser!
Serve with tortilla chips, celery and french bread.

Weekend Warriors Part 4

February 3, 2012

While I hung out on the couch last weekend and took naps,
Steve, my dad, my sister and her BF got a lot done upstairs!
Thank you family.
 I owe ya!
How about I reward you all with a cute little baby to take care of?
I bet you would all love that!
You can watch it AS MUCH as your little heart desires!
Deal?
 Deal.
The insulation we are installing ourselves is in.
The new windows are installed.

Electrical is done and framing is up.
The interior spray insulation happens today!
If that wasn’t enough to do, we decided to expose the chimney in the stairwell too!
Before

During

After
The lighting I ordered also arrived , along with the radiant floor heating we ordered.
Love it!?
Then, as if we haven’t spent enough money, we went and bought a new King size mattress for our new bed!!
We are getting a lot done, I can’t wait for the finished product.
Hope you have a great weekend.
We will be home, gettin’ dirty!

You saw it on the side of the road

February 2, 2012

You saw it on the side of the road with a “Free” sign on it’s back.
You thought to yourself
“Wow, what a treasure”
You hauled it home.
Now it sits, it needs some TLC and you aren’t sure what to do with it.
Here are some ideas:
Suitcase turned bathroom storage

Suitcase turned pet bed

Add some paint, good as new

Stack them up and fill them with junk

Phone station for your papers and bills

New bedside table

Oh there’s a cat again

Dresser drawer turned shelf

Dresser drawer turned table

Drawers make kitchen storage

Tiered garden for a small space!
So many projects.
 So little time.

Team Celery Birthday Extravaganza

January 31, 2012

Our evening started out with happy hour and then dinner and drinks at Toulousse Petit in Queen Anne.
If you haven’t been there, you need to go.
It’s amazing.
First I needed something to wear though.
I didn’t want to squeeze into an old dress and feel bloated, so a friend generously donated a maternity dress for me to wear!
It was so comfy!

The  restaurant’s menu is massive and I had a hard time making decisions.
There are so many good things on there!
Luckily since we got there for Happy Hour, I was able to sample a few items in smaller portions.
I started off with :

Fried Green Tomatoes with Remoulade ( To die for)

Sinister Spicy Fried Shrimp ( Hot!)
Pommes Frites with Aioli ( Who doesn’t love some fries?!)

The Birthday Girl!

For Dinner I had:
Cauliflower and White Truffle Soup
with Dungeness Crab and Chervil white pepper, chives, crème fraiche
&
Housemade Ricotta Gnocchi
with Hedgehog Mushrooms, Butternut Squash, & Cippolinis
shallots, thyme, mushroom stock, truffle oil
( Barley had room to eat this)

Cauliflower soup ( best thing I have ever eaten)

Sweet potato Gnocchi

Everyone had delicious drinks but me!

The ladies

Then it was onto the show!
We took a taxi over to the Paramount to see Anjelah Johnson.
Who I actually had never heard of , but she has a huge following.
She was on Mad T.V. and a few movies recently.
It was a full house.
The gorgeous theater

My gift for Angela!
She has two Bostons.

Hope you had a fun weekend too!

Don’t stop doin’ what you’re doin’

January 27, 2012

Does anyone else tear up when this commercial comes on!?
I think it’s pretty ridiculous that I get emotional over a hardware store ad.
Maybe it’s the song?
I don’t know, but I think it’s the cutest ever.
Take a look.
Steve said the lady reminds him of me. 🙂
Thank Gawd I don’t have a stainless fridge or I would worry about Steve doing pirouettes in front of it.
