15 Weeks Fat

January 26, 2012

Here it is in all it’s glory.
The  “awkward” stage of “Is she or Isn’t she?”
As much as I am not looking forward to gaining weight, I am anxious to have a prominent belly, instead of this excess chubbiness.
It might also help me secure a seat on the bus, which would be awesome!

Thanks National Pie day. Like I really needed that.
Next week, I start back at Zumba.
I have taken almost 3 months off and I am finally feeling better and can stand for longer than 10 minutes before starting to black out.
Should be fun.
In other news this week:
I have horrible night sweats
A slight case of bacne
and discovered the only diaper bag I want is almost $400.00.
Yay Pregnancy.

Welcome to the Hotel California

January 24, 2012

This last week, I felt like a prisoner in my own home.
I took 2 days off work due to a bad sinus & ear infection.
Which meant I slept for 13 hours, then relocated to the couch and watched t.v. until I fell asleep again, then woke up, ate, watched more t.v and went to bed at midnight.
I was useless.
And so was Bentley

When I finally went to the Dr. and got some medicine to feel better, it snowed.
It snowed a lot.
Which meant taking more days of work off.
Then it rained
The rain froze & it snowed again.
Leaving the hubs and me trapped inside our house.
I have never seen anything like it before.
We have had snow and we have had ice storms, but we haven’t had the two together!
It created a huge mess.
Knocking down a lot of our trees, ruining my plants
( That i had even moved out of harms way undercover before the snow)
and sealing up our cars like giant ice cubes.
After missing almost an entire week of work, Steve and I spent over an hour scraping and defrosting our cars so we could get to work on Friday.

This is the snow on top of my car and the 1 inch layer of ice on top of the snow.

This is the side of the car.
It literally looked like someone hosed it down and it froze in action.

This is the layer of ice i worked on for 30 min on the windshield.

Solid layer of ice on the windows and doors.

The front

My broken tool.
Finally it warmed up the next weekend and rained and melted everything away, leaving us with another mess and flooding.
Thank you mother nature.

Weekend Warriors Part 3 & Cookie Sheets in my Ceiling.

January 19, 2012

This weekend we got down and dirty and made some serious progress on our upstairs.
It has been almost a year since we moved in and made plans to renovate!
So many other projects took priority and it fell to the back burner.
Now that we are on a little more of a time constraint as I need a place to put the nursery, work has began.
We had the help of a few wonderful friends who came over to help with the demo.
I would like to point out, that this demolition of the walls and windows was a little bittersweet for me. You may remember that over the summer I spent a week or two up there scraping wallpaper off the walls and sanding, priming and painting all the window frames and trim.
See ” Weekend Warriors Part 2“
Originally, the plan was to keep the windows and drywall over the existing walls.
That has since changed and we decided to start from bare bones.
Which I think is the right decision, however, I just wasted my precious time scraping and painting!

Before
During

After

We tore down all the wood off the walls and ceilings to expose the beams.
Most of the wood was in good shape and we kept it and stacked it up in the basement.
We want to use it to build some reclaimed wood type projects around the house.
Everything else was tossed out the window into the back yard and then loaded in the truck to take to the dump.

Now that all the walls are down.
We can redo  the electrical and add outlets, since there are only 2 on the entire floor!
Then we insulate, add new windows and drywall.
Simple, right?!

Treasures:
After ripping all the wood down, we found a tin cup with cats on it, a few cookie sheets and some paper doll clothes drawn with crayons shoved in the ceiling and walls.

I hope none of our friends get lead poisoning from the paint on the walls we torn down.
From what I read, you really only have severe reactions when you are constantly exposed over an extended amount of time.
So…. they should be fine… I think.

Polenta Lasagna & Cake Pops the cheating way

January 18, 2012

The other night my friends Chris and Angela came over for dinner.
Angela found a really good recipe for using polenta in place of pasta noodles.
 It turned out awesome.

We added a few extras though, because the recipe was pretty basic and plain.
Here it is:

Ingredients

  • 1 (18 ounce) package polenta, cut into 1/4 inch thick slices
  • 1/2 (24 ounce) jar bottled marinara sauce
  • 1/4 cup pesto
  • 1/4 cup pine nuts
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Oil an 11x7x2 inch baking dish.
  2. Arrange a single layer of polenta in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread a thin layer of pesto over the polenta. Spoon half of the sauce over the polenta. Top with another layer of polenta and sauce.
  3. Bake, uncovered, for 25 minutes. Turn on the broiler. Top polenta with cheese and pine nuts, and broil until cheese browns and nuts are toasted.
Our modifications:
We oven roasted zucchini, squash, onions and mushrooms in the over with some olive oil and seasonings till tender and added those to a layer in the dish.
We also added a layer of Ricotta Cheese so that it was a little heartier and had more of that lasagna taste.
Then we broiled it at the end with cheddar and Parmesan on top!

It tasted great.
The verdict from the boys – “It needs meat”
While that dish was in the oven , we decided to try out on of my Christmas gifts.
I got a Cake Pop maker!
I have tried numerous times to make the enviable cake pop.
I usually yield 5 that turn out great, the rest suck.
They all taste good, but that’s not the point!
This machine makes it so much easier.
It wasn’t on my wish list, i didn’t even know it existed, but it’s a pretty hand little thing.
It would actually be a great project for younger kids too.

The process was pretty simple.
Follow the recipe to make the cake batter.
Preheat the machine.
Fill each space with a Tablespoon of batter , close lid and cook for 6 minutes.
Remove, insert stick, cook and dip in icing!

Sorry, I don’t have a finished product pic.
I know I am a bad blogger.

Friday the 13th

January 13, 2012

This particular Friday marks my first 3 months of pregnancy!
We are exactly 6 months away from our due date which happens to also be a Friday the 13th !
7/13/2012

Not much belly, just 4 new lbs of thickness and saddlebags.
That’s hot.
And if this happens in real life, that’s totally adorable.
It makes me like babies just a little bit more.
Almost as much as cats.
Almost.
