Pantry Baskets!

November 18, 2011

I think I am down to the last item (a rug) on my mission to put the finishing touches on my pantry.
Last week I was able to find a set of metal baskets that fit perfectly under the bottom shelves.
I had been looking for some just like these online, but they were either the wrong dimensions or really expensive.
I came across these diamonds in the rough while shopping at Fred Meyer.
I found them in the back of the store, next to the automotive section and Rubbermaid storage bins.
They happened to have them on clearance.
Then they were marked down another 40%!
Probably because they were ugly.
But, I saw their potential.
Here is the basket as it came from the store.
With this “sweet” little apple pie metal bottle cap attached to the front. (barf)

We easily removed the bottle cap by clipping the wires holding it on to the side.
Here is the finished product.
Rustic little metal bins that I got for a song!

Claudia’s red tea cart

November 17, 2011

Apparently I am meant to have a little metal tea cart because they keep falling into my life.
When I was in Wenatchee this past summer a friend took me to this adorable little home decor shop, that was unfortunately closed on Sundays so I didn’t get to go in.
However, in their front window among other fabulous items was a retro, red, 3 tier, metal tea cart.
It was the only thing I noticed in the entire display.
At that point I must have invited it into my Universe.
I came home from my visit empty handed but thought of all the neat things I could put on this little cart.
I needed to keep my eye out for one.
Flash forward 4 days.
Steve’s Aunt Claudia calls us.
Her mother passed away and she was getting rid of a few items sitting around her childhood home.
She came across some baking pans, dishes, misc items she thought I would like and also, a little red tea cart.
She says” I don’t know if you want this old thing, but it might go with your ” retro” theme kitchen or something”
As she is talking, I am jumping up and down on the other end of the phone” I’ll take it! I’ll take it!” I told her.
She dropped it off at my house and it’s perfect.
 I love it.
Right now it is serving as a mini buffet in the
 dinning room.

Maybe a week after I got the cart from Aunt Claudia, my mom called.
Her and my dad went on a trip down to the ocean for the weekend.
They were antiquing on their visit
( More like mom was antiquing and dad was walking behind her looking for records)
and they came across this cute little red tea cart and thought I needed it,even though we had never discussed anything about it before.
To which I replied, I already have that….exact…same…cart… (in red even!)
but she was correct in her assumption that I would want one!

Weird.

First dance wedding songs we all hate

November 16, 2011

A friend of mine started a trend.
I attended her wedding, before we were friends.
No, I didn’t wedding crash.
I made her cake.
While I sat through her adorable ceremony I couldn’t get over how unique the music selection was.
For the next week, I had all the songs stuck in my head.
They were all rock songs I already knew, but they were the most amazing instrumental versions I had never heard before!
 Then I forgot about it.
A few months later, Steve and I needed to come up with a first dance wedding song of our own.
He wanted every high school prom song out there.
Ie; Because you loved me- Celine Dion
I don’t want to miss a thing- Aerosmith
From this moment -Shinia Twain
Amazed- Lonestar
Back that thing up-Juvenile
Alright, just kidding about that last one.
Seriously though, every song made me want to puke.
They were all so cliche’.
Or reminded me of going to homecoming drunk ( sorry mom) and making out under the bleachers.
( I never did that, but it always happens in the movies)
We considered all the genres, country, classical, soft rock, classic rock.
We could not agree on anything and the songs we could agree on, were really difficult to dance to!
Then I had an idea.
I remembered the wedding with the amazing music from my friend’s wedding.
I found out who the band was and voila’!
There were TOO MANY to choose from.
We ended up settling on
You shook me all night long by AC/DC
but here’s the catch, it was all instrumental by…
Vitamin string quartet!

It ended up being the perfect song choice for us and we had great feed back after the wedding from our guests.
I would say the best part was all the wedding party singing out the words as we danced our first dance!
I will never forget that.
Since my wedding, I know of 2 more brides who are also using a song selection from Vitamin String Quartet.

So , if you are stumped for that perfect number to strut your stuff on the dance floor to and if hearing Etta James ” At last” one more time it is going to make you shove a pencil in your eye, you should explore this option.

You won’t be disappointed!
These may not be wedding worthy, but here are a few of my favorites:
Just Dance – Lady Gaga
Sweet child of mine– G&R
Enter sandman– Metallica
Don’t stop believing– Journey

I love a good collage of stuff!
It is very rare that you will find a lone item or picture hanging in my house.
Everyone needs a friend or two, to hang out with!
(Get it, hang?)
This reminds me of a European restaurant for some reason

GREAT idea!

Eclectic

Cozy clutter

My hallway!

Do you cluster your frames together too?

Veteran’s Day, Happy Birthday Marines & Lundquest update

November 10, 2011

In Lieu of Veteran’s day and the Marine Corp Birthday this week, I thought I would do a post updating the condition of my friend Barry.
I know I posted this photo last year, but I love it.
First off,  I would like to invite everyone to attend a fundraiser we have planned this weekend on
Saturday the 12th of November.
Held at Dino’s  in Kennydale from 12-6 pm.
RSVP HERE
This event was set up in order to give friends, family and anyone who wants to help out, the opportunity to stop by and make a contribution however they see fit.
We will be taking donations, cards, words of encouragement, etc. to pass on to the Lundquest family.
As well as taking photos & recording short video messages of all you “do gooders” to send Amy and Barry to remind them they aren’t alone.
We will also be raffling off a set of passes for a studio tour at KISW & to meet the guys from BJ SHAY!!
Please stop by, say hello, watch the UW game, enjoy the drink/ food specials Dino’s is putting on for us and know that you are making a difference in someone’s lives!
 ALSO
That Saturday morning there is a bootcamp class taking place & all proceeds will go towards the Lundquest Fund as well!

And of course you are still welcome to make a donation via the web page we set up.
Please click the tab on the menu of my blog to go there!
On to the update:
I haven’t posted about my best friend and her hubby who was in the motorcycle accident since originally letting you all know what had happened.
It has now been over a month since the accident and he has come leaps and bounds from where we ( and Dr.’s) thought he would be at this moment in time, if ever!
This week he was moved into a new hospital in Phoenix to start his next phase of recovery in Rehab!
Since I was in Arizona visiting last month, he has come out of his coma and is beginning to talk.
He is fully breathing on his own and is able to walk, feed himself and tie his shoes on his own!
They have replaced the skull piece that was originally removed due to swelling, and have since removed all his stitches and staples.
Barry is still struggling with movement on his right side, as it was the left side of his brain that was injured and the left controls the right.
(Remember that saying, “Left handed people are the only ones in their right mind?”  Lol)
This is something he will have to work on, but they anticipate he will regain full movement eventually.
There are a million more medical details, but I will spare you the mumbojumbo.
Bottom line, he is getting better each day.
He is clearly determined and is putting all his effort and energy into getting better and going home.
I truly don’t think this could have happened with out everyone’s positive thoughts, prayers and support.

Thank you to everyone who has kept them in their thoughts through out this hard time , as well as those of you that have made generous donations to the family.

The fight isn’t over yet, but each day Barry shows Amy what true love really is.
As for me, I know I have learned many lessons from this situation.
I learned what a promise really means.
When you say your vows and breeze through “in sickness and in health” you never really play out the various scenarios in your mind.
You never stop and think, what would my life be like if my spouse was ill or incapacitated?
If I had to make the hard decisions of life support, 24 hour care and basically giving up my life to care for this person from now on?
Would they become a burden to you?
Would you resent them?
How would you make ends meet?
Are you financially prepared for a life altering event like this?
I don’t think many people are.
It’s one of those situations where you never think it will happen to you.
Watching everything that has happened with Amy and Barry has hugely impacted my life.
Steve and I have already made changes to protect ourselves if anything should ever happen to us.

Something, I don’t think I really ever thought about before.

I always just thought, we are young, we don’t have kids, I don’t need to think about it.
But, I do. And so do you.

Ruffles & Rust

November 8, 2011

October 22nd I went to this fabulous flea market with my mom and sister.
Ruffles & Rust
We found a few treasure and even more great ideas.
There was tons of inspiration.
Here are some pics I snapped inside

This is a vintage armadillo purse.
I had never seen one in real life before, but had heard about them.
My mom’s aunt had one when she was growing up and I always remember my mom telling me about it and how gross it was.
Yep, it’s pretty gross.
While i was taking this photo, an elderly couple passed by and the man said to his wife
” Wow, look at that nice purse!”
Then she walked over to check it out.
She says ” This, is a very nice armadillo bag!”
Then they walked off.
Umm…. okay.
I guess I am missing something.
( And I like really weird stuff, so I don’t know why I don’t get it.)
Isn’t this neat?
It’s a bookcase/alter thing.
Wish I had a place for it.
Here is what I picked up
This hanging vintage alter
It lights up and has a place for a photo in the center and 2 shelves on either side.
( not sure if I am going to repaint it or not)
This vintage Star burst clock!
Remember my POST about how I wanted one?!
I was 5.00 and it still works.
I did some online research and this same clock is selling on Mid century Modern decor sites form $75.00-$195.00!
I also picked up some small deer antlers and a few little nicknack’s.
All in all, it was a good time, but it appeared that all the big items had sold the day before at the special presale event.
Better luck next time I guess!
Anyone else been to this event before?

Who were you again?

November 4, 2011

Sometimes it is hard to keep track of all your family members.
Okay, really it’s not, unless you are part of the Duggars family on 19 kids and Counting.
However, you might get tired of pointing out to friends and coworkers who each person in your wedding album is.
Here is a cute idea to bypass that.

It also just makes for a cute photo
and who knows, maybe in 50 years you won’t remember their names.
Now, you will have a good reference point.
