Old Sexist Ads

September 8, 2011

These are good for a laugh
(Yes, they are real)
(And there is a clock on the oven for a reason.)

( Who has so much stuff to iron that they need to sit down?!)

(What do you tell a woman with 2 black eyes? Nothing. You already told her twice)
( Well, thank baby Jesus!)

( I actually think this ad is kinda cute…)

( Love me a man trap sammich!)

( It’s not rape if you yell “surprise” first)

( Once a cheater, always a cheater)

( Because nothing turns on a woman more than old food being ground up in the sink)
( Is this where “Going Postal”  came from?)

( I have no words for this one)

( And you thought Toddlers and Tiaras was creepy )

( Wait, I’m suppose to keep shaving my legs?)

( Does your husband walk all over you? Maybe you need to make him more sammiches)

( I still want a Dyson animal…)

(I’d say these are all ” WINNING”)

Dad’s rule of thumb when Christmas shopping is,
” Never buy her anything that plugs in”
Mom says ” Thanks”
( They have been married 38 years, it must be the secret)

Succulent wedding

September 7, 2011

And i dont mean the pig.
When I was wedding planning, I cringed at the price of floral arrangements and bouquets.
They can be so expensive and they only last for 1 day!
I think this idea is just a gorgeous and they may not be a lot cheaper, but at least you can throw a few around the house and keep them for a while longer to enjoy!
It kinda makes the money spending hurt a little less.

Cat Hair crafts & the only uterus you will ever need

September 6, 2011

Craft ideas are endless…

(Taken from The Charity Wedding)
“One of our friends loves to bring me tabloid magazines. I have always just looked at the covers in the grocery store and never actually had any motivation to look at one so I was slightly intrigued when she put one in my hands. She was completely obsessed with the Casey Anthony trial and she is now filling her withdrawal with updates via National Examiner. The best part is that I am pretty certain that she thinks that they are reporting 100% factual information. So I decided to scan through it to see what I was missing all these years and I came across this…
After I threw up, I vowed to never curiously browse a tabloid again. Only in a tabloid can you have an article dedicated to your cat hair jewelry. Like everything else in that magazine, I cross my fingers that this isn’t real, but I fear it isn’t so. The article concludes by saying that the hair is from brushes not from coughed up hair balls. Because that as the jeweler says would be “nasty.” Yeah, that would be nasty, I’m glad we have some perspective here. You’re right, cat hair jewelry from brushes seems way more appealing now.  I hope I have saved you from any tabloid curiosity you might have.”
Or you can knit with your cat hair yarn!
(Taken from dailymail)

“Wondering what to do with your pet’s unwanted fur? An American animal groomer has come up with the ingenious, if slightly unsavoury, idea of making handbags and purses out of the surplus hair.
Cat-groomer Danelle German has used everything from cat, dog and even monkey hair to weave into her furry fashion items.
Adorned with jewels and bows, Danelle says most people don’t realise her collection started life on a cat or dog.
Depending on the size of the pet, the groomer boasts she can weave anything from purses to handbags.
And Danelle has now been inundated with animal hair from pet owners desperate to have a memento of their treasured pet.
The owner of a grooming salon, Danelle said she came up with the idea after noticing how much pet hair was just thrown in the rubbish at the end of every day.

The 40-year-old said: “Every day at the salon, we end up with tons of cat hair that is either combed out or shaved off the cats during the grooming process.
“Usually it goes in the trash but one day I got this hair-brained idea to try to spin the hair into yarn.
“I figured that if Angora bunny hair to could made into a beautiful yarn then surely I could do the same with cat hair.”
Having never attempted anything like it before, Danelle spent days practicing with a spinning wheel until she had a ball of yarn – made from cat hair.
Pleased with the result, Danelle then knitted the cat-hair yarn into a fashionable bag.
She said: “After a bit of experimenting I finally had a completed handbag.
“Everyone that saw it thought it was pretty – then when they learned it was made from spun cat hair they thought it was amazing.”
Danelle, from Simpsonville, South Carolina in America, admitted she didn’t always have a positive reaction to her unusual collection.
She said: “Some people think it’s gross and turn their noses up at the idea.”

(Naw, really?!)

If you are allergic to cats, you could always opt to make Bella’s womb
(Taken from Craftster)

“I read the Twilight series.  Go team Jacob! (What can I say, Edward sounds like a dick, and Jacob is furry and warm.)
Somebody in the world decided to recreate a felt version of Bella’s womb.  As if it should be detachable and separate from her body.

Said womb opens to reveal a naked, large breasted, armless, middle-aged yoga teacher with flippers and a Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s baby haircut the vampire/human fetus kickin’ it Edward & Bella style.  That’s not at all strange!

I hope this inspired ya’ll to get your craft on…. or vomit.
 To each their own.

When I grow up…

September 2, 2011

Babies on kinda around and nearby the brain.
But the topic still seems so taboo.
Mostly because I am just a kid, or so I thought.
At what point am I supposed to start to feel like an adult?
I keep waiting.
When I was little, teenagers seemed like adults.
I became a teenager, still felt like a kid.
When I was a teenager, my manager at work seemed like an adult.
I am now older than that manager, still feel like a kid.
I figured, once I graduated college, I would feel like an adult, nope.
Once I got married, I would truly feel like an adult. Still don’t.
Once I have an adult job, once I make X amount salary, once I get a grown up car, once I …. What?!
What turning point happens when I realize I am almost 30 and not 19.
Maybe it is because I am the youngest one in my office, or maybe it’s because I am the youngest one in my family.
Once I have a kid, will I feel like an adult?
Or will I still feel like my mother’s daughter… having a baby.
That stresses me out.
How can I be a good mom, if I don’t even feel like I should be a mom?
I love the show Teen Mom.
I have been watching 16 and pregnant since it started.
On numerous occasions I have been guilty of relating myself to the situations on the show.
Thinking, wow, I’m so glad that’s not me.
Then I realize, um hello?! You are 11 years older, that wouldn’t be you!
It is like I forget; I tie pregnancy into being this bad, awful burden.
Something to avoid at all costs because it will destroy your life.
Well, yeah, it will if you are 16!
Which I am not!
All my life I have been told by T.V., by parents, by teachers, by friends, “Don’t get pregnant”
Naturally this makes sense, because I was young, in school, unmarried and in no position to have a child.
Now that I am “of age,” how do I shake the stigma that haunts me?!
I still have in my head that, “I want kids, when I grow up”
Guess what? I grew up.
So, why do I still feel like I’m 18 years old.
Majority of my friends have kids and some are on their second and thirds.
They seem old enough to me.
It doesn’t feel weird that they are parents and I view them as adults.
I am just having such a hard time wrapping my brain around the fact that I am 27 and a full fledged adult.
I am married, I own a home, I have an adult job, I graduated from college.
All of life’s stepping stones have been stepped on by my big old feet.
So what am I still waiting for?
Anyone else out there waiting to grow up?

Mom served our wedding cake at Thanksgiving

September 2, 2011

This past Sunday, as you know, was our 1st wedding anniversary.
One of the few wedding traditions that I had planned to follow was freezing the top tier of our wedding cake to eat on our 1st anniversary.
Sadly, things didn’t go as I had hoped.
It all started in a downward spiral when Steve and I ended up cutting & serving from each tier of our cake at the wedding last year.
We had more than enough desserts, but each tier of cake was a different flavor and the top was Carrot and we really wanted to eat it!
So, caught in the moment, I agreed to cut it and figured we would just save some of the cake from another tier to freeze.
Which did in fact happen.
Then 3 months later my mom kinda served it for dessert at Thanksgiving.
I hadn’t realized it at the time.
When we ate it, I assumed there was still a portion safely tucked away for me somewhere.
A few months ago I asked Mom about the cake she had saved for our anniversary.
At that point we both realized she thought I had the cake and I thought she had the cake, when in fact we had delightfully gobbled down all the remaining morsels back in November.
We also never recovered our missing cake topper after the wedding either.
I’m pretty sure it accidentally got thrown out during clean up.
So, that sucks.
I decided the solution would be to have a small cake replica made from the same bakery we ordered our wedding cake from for our anniversary.
Unfortunately, due to their hours, there wasn’t any way I could pick the cake up by Sunday.
So, I ended up ordering it from somewhere else.

To celebrate our 1 year of marriage,we went to dinner at the Space Needle.
It was a lot of fun.
Steve had never been there before and was pretty excited about going.
It was a warm, clear day too, so we could see everything.

Then we came back to our house and had our “fake” frozen wedding cake.
We had gotten a bottle of Champagne as a gift on our wedding day to save for our 1st anniversary too!

The cat needs to learn how to use a camera, so these photos can be a little less awkward.

I am sure it tasted better fresh anyway.

Birthday weekend extravaganza

September 1, 2011

Friday night we kicked off the weekend with a surprise pool party for Steve!
The Birthday toast

I completely forgot to take any photos of the actual pool part… sorry.
Then we made S’mores

And cupcakes from Cupcake Royal

Saturday we went to Pain in the Grass at the White River Amphitheater.
This was a better people watching event than a concert.
Yes, 5 finger death punch was great and the lead singer from Korn is still really unattractive,
I realized I knew way more Hinder songs than I thought and we spent $10.00 for one beer.
Aside from all that though, I realized how far off people’s views of their own body image really can be.
I saw some pretty horrid outfits as well as what looked to be homemade tattoos.
I was able to snap a quick shot of these two interesting get ups though!
And then there is us… lookin’ all normal and such

Among the less than desirable outfits, were a lot of men’s t shirts with classless sayings.
Please allow me to share a few:
Orgasm Donor
I love animals, but I will pound the shi*t out of a beaver
I’ll drive, if you suck
I know how may licks it takes
No wonder all these boys are single…
Sunday we participated in a golf game for our friend Peter’s Birthday.
I have never golfed before and I actually did pretty well.
We all tried to dress the part as best we could.
Steve practicing his trajectory

Rachel and me

Note: golfing in a skirt is kinda awkward

Some of the group

Tyler won a Fanta shirt and Steve won a used copy of Trivial Pursuit.
If you know my dad, you are already aware that this specific game is his all time favorite and is played at every family get together and holiday.
He buys a copy anytime he comes across it at garage sales and then gives them away as gifts.
This way, there is always a copy on hand whereever he goes and he doesn’t have to bring his own.
Smart man.
Too bad I hate this game.
Anyway, it was only fitting that we left with our own copy.
Dad will be proud.
This Birthday boy in tights.
Then it was off to dinner to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary!!!

Yam it up.

August 31, 2011

Good morning
I haven’t made these yet, but they look amazing!

Yam Pancakes

  • I took one leftover yam from dinner (you can leave these in the flesh, and put them in the fridge.  They are great as leftovers or to use in recipes)
  • I used
    • 1/2 cup of the cooked yam scooped out from it’s skin.
    • 1 cup low fat milk
    • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
    • 1 egg
  • I blended all ingredients in a blender (Magic Bullet Actually), until it was smooth and runny.
  • Then I put in a bowl:
    • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
    • 2 tsp. baking powder
    • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • Then added the liquid ingredients to the dry.  You can add more milk if you need to for the consistency of pancake batter. I like mine thin, so it pours easily and cooks thoroughly.
  • Then pour batter onto a hot griddle.  Flip pancake when it begins to bubble.
  • Then EAT! MMMM

You can do what you wanna do, In Living Color

August 30, 2011

I am ashamed to admit my husband just saw In Living Color for the first time on T.V.
He hadn’t seen or even heard of it before!
Which kind of makes me curious what has been going through his head ever time I have done my Fire Marshall Bill impressions.

Homie don’t play that.
