Jack & Jill

June 15, 2011

I have yet to come up with a theme for my sad outdated bathroom
If I lived alone I would go ultra girly and do pink.
Make it super retro and girly.
But… I have this thing… called a husband and we only have one bathroom.
So I have to be considerate or something and compromise.
(Whatever that means)
Fun Designs I like:

And a little something for him:

Hauntings of the Starburst Mirror

June 14, 2011

I need this mirror to complete my master bedroom design.
I have come across some cheepies at Marshalls and TJ Maxx but nothing I love.
The real deal is over 300.00 though.
Time to start scouring the thrift stores to find a mid century version for a bargain.
Here are some of the differnt styles I have come across:

Or maybe I should just make my own…. I know I have some hub caps out in the shed.

When it rains…. it Bridal showers

June 13, 2011

One of the most important events when I was wedding planning was my shower.
I was looking forward to this party with my close friends and family just as much as the big day.
My cousin and aunt pulled off a wonderful party for me.
I still love looking at shower ideas online even though the wedding is over.
There are so many fun girly things you can incorporate for the bride’s special party.

Here are some of my favorites:
Mad Men
Serve up the Tom Collins and Manhattans strong.

Guests can  dress in period attire aka cocktail or house dresses
Include fun foods like deviled eggs, layered jello, deviled ham sandwiches
Great Favor Idea:
Along with the initiations include a blank recipe card for guests to fill out with their favorite dish.
Have a vintage recipe box out to file the cards away in when the party starts.
Then give it to the bride as a fun keepsake with all her friends and family’s recipes to start her new life with!
*Extra Credit: Cute Props for a Polaroid photo shoot!
Kitsch
Basically anything over the top and tacky goes.
Sweet vintage floral prints
( Think grandma’s table cloth, but not the lace one)

Tacky bridesmaids favors

Anything that lights up, has glitter, is Tiki themed or has some kind of food product on it.
Your food options:
Hostess treats, lil smokies, cheese on toothpicks and doughnuts
Cute favor for guests!
Paris:

Macaroons are a must
Ohh LaLa
Pink, Gold & Girly
Sweet and perfect for your virgin bride to be!

With all the shabby chic decor around today, this theme is super easy to pull off!

Don’t forget the cake!

Landlocked Sushi

June 10, 2011

I love going to Arizona. I get to see my best friend.
It’s hot and sunny.
Best of all I get to eat at Ra.
They have the most delicious menu of sushi treats I have ever seen.
I know I live in Seattle… on the water…where all the seafood is fresh by the hour.
So you would think Sushi in Arizona isn’t the best idea, but after trying Ra,
I think you would change your mind.
Their menu is Japanese Fusion and the flavor combinations are amazing.
It is not your traditional sushi.
PLUS they have Happy Hour Mon- Sat!
So we got all this for $40.00.

(Spring roll & wonton slightly eatten already )

Indulge.
Here is what we ate:
PINEAPPLE CHEESE WONTONS

Lightly fried wontons filled with cream cheese, scallions & pineapple;
served with a roasted pineapple dipping sauce
LOBSTER SPRING ROLLS
Lobster mixed with mango, cream cheese & mild peppers, wrapped in wonton paper & lightly fried;
served with a mango sauce
VIVA LAS VEGAS ROLL
Kani kama crab & cream cheese rolled in rice & seaweed, lightly tempura battered & topped with spicy tuna, kani kama crab mix & sliced lotus root;
finished with a sweet eel sauce & spinach tempura bits
MANGO LOBSTER ROLL
Lobster mix, avocado & cucumber rolled & topped with thinly sliced mango;
served with mango tobiko & kiwi wasabi sauces
CRAZY MONKEY ROLL
Smoked salmon, mango & cream cheese topped with avocado, red beet tempura bits & cashews;
drizzled with mango & sweet eel sauces
TROPICAL ROLL
Cucumber, mango & avocado rolled & topped with spinach tempura bits,
spicy shrimp mixed with masago & mango salsa
Hungry now?

More Adorable Outdoor Chapels

There are a lot of great ways to make your outdoor ceremony more intimate and unique.
Theses photos showcase a few ideas of how you can add some charm to your wedding.
Sometimes outdoor weddings feel more like day camp than a romantic unity.
Besides decorating your aisle way, think outside the box and add a boarder around the outside.
This designates a more specific space so that guests feel less like they are lounging in their backyards.

Freeze Frame

June 8, 2011

Can’t afford the high price of renting a Photo booth from your photographer?
Here are some great alternatives that are just as memorable and even more unique.
Best of all they are DIY!
Saving money is a good thing.

These would all be a fun tough to any party, not just weddings.
All guests love a good party favor- send them home with a photo to remember the night by!

I want everything in Z Gallerie

June 6, 2011

While I was in Arizona visiting my bff Amy, we wandered into Z Gallerie.
I look at their stuff online frequently and when we passed the store I saw they were having a 80% off clearance sale!
Score!
Not.
The only stuff “junk” on clearance was a few ugly dishes and a big ugly vase.
Totally disappointing.
We soon fell in love with pretty much everything else in the store though.
I am ready to get started on the master suit in our house.. today!
Starting with these kick ass mounts.
I am torn between the deer and the moose.

And all their gorgeous mirrored furniture

Love the white and turquoise scheme.
Plus my favorite; Lucite chairs

Cozy cloud colored couches with nail head trim

And I need this bedding!

They are half the price of the Dwell bedding I wanted.
 Hmmmmm conundrum.

Gawd Awful

June 3, 2011

Why was this dress ever made in the first place?
While I was in Arizona, Amy and I went shopping.
We wandered in a dress store that had some really neat stuff.
Like the dress Lauren Alaina wore on American Idol.
So in love with this dress.
It’s part pageant, part November rain.
Lined in Leopard print.
It also had some really horrid stuff.
Which I insisted Amy try on so I could take a photo of her in.
 Tah Dah

Yes, those are butterfly appliques adornng the bust.
Acompanied by a sheer lime green corset.
I think the matching scarf is a nice touch.
Worst part; there were only 2 left on the rack.
That means someone is buying these.

I miss Golden Spoon

June 2, 2011

Where did all the frozen yogurts go?!
( and the cowboys too)
There is a special place in my heart for frozen yogurt.
I remember when i was a little kid and I had to go grocery shopping with my mom.
We would go to the old Safeway in  Renton.
(Yep, this is a real pic of the ol’ place!)
They had a frozen yogurt machine in the store and bins with an assortment of toppings.
This was my good behavior treat…. bribe if you will.
I have such a specific memory of ridding in the grocery cart with my mom pushing it and getting to fill my little cup with vanilla frozen yogurt and top it with gummy bears.
They always got super hard from the cold and were difficult to actually eat, but they are still a topping favorite. I like a challenge I guess.
Anyway, that yogurt machine was taken out and the store was torn down, to make room for the bigger better Super Safeway that now stands in that lot.
I longed for that soft creamy frozen yogurt from the machine for many years after.
Nothing compared, no soft serve, no sorbet, not even the frozen yogurt machine at Zoopa’s Salad bar quenched the thirst for the delicious yogurt I remembered.
Then I moved to San Diego and discovered Golden Spoon.
The most delightful fro yo shops there is.
There were 3 locations within 15 miles of my house.
 I went at all hours.
Morning, lunch breaks, night time, after the gym.
They had an assortment of flavors, all low calorie and fat free.
Along with tons of toppings.
Best of all, they didn’t break the bank on my 10.00/hr. budget and they had stamp cards too!
( I love stamp cards, I feel like I am being rewarded for being a customer)
When I took my first bite, I felt like I was back in a grocery store shopping cart.
Finally I found the yogurt of my dreams!
Then I moved back to Seattle and I am again, searching for the perfect yogurt.
Don’t get me wrong, I am happy about the new fro yo fad and all the little shops popping up around the area. I think its a great treat that should be enjoyed by all!
But, none of them taste like Golden Spoon!
I have done some research and they offer franchising…. I suppose I could  always open up my own shop!
Thankfully, Arizona happens to be home to some Golden Spoon locations and I happened to go there over Memorial Day weekend.
Let’s just say, I made up for lost time.
