This is Thirty Something

Hold my beer, I got this.

Splish Splash

March 23, 2012

With the completion of the upstairs nearing… we have been discussing our next project.
The kitchen.
Originally I was planning on putting in white subway tiles below our cupboards but have recently reconsidered.
I am really liking the bead board in these inspiration pics i found.
We are definitely going to do butcher block counters along with it too.
I think these elements would fit really well with our home’s character.

Is this my future?

March 21, 2012

Steve really wants a puppy.
A lab, to be specific.
I keep reminding him we are expecting a baby.
I really can’t fathom doing both!
Then I came across this photo of a lab and a cat that looks suspiciously like Bentley.
I added in a baby to get my point across.
Gee, I can’t wait.

Seeing a Specialist

March 20, 2012

As if my anxiety hasn’t already sky rocketed enough with pregnancy, we found out at our 20 week ultra sound apt that something was missing.
Apparently, the umbilical cord normally has two arteries and one vein.
They are in charge of transporting blood, oxygen & nourishment to and from the baby.
I only have one artery and one vein.
This is known as a “Two Vessel Cord. “
I was told it’s pretty common and not a huge concern.
But, of course I was not put at ease by this information.
No one wants to hear that something  ” doesn’t quite look right.”

The major impact this can have on the baby is that it could lack in receiving enough nutrients and in turn stunt it’s growth.
Along with a slew of other things that there are minimal risks, so for now I am going to pretend they don’t exists.

So after this discovery I was sent off to see a genetic counselor and have another ultra sound done.
This scan ended up taking and entire hour and I fell asleep on the table during it!
The Dr. measured all the major organ systems and checked the function of arteries.
They also printed me some more photos.

Yup, that there is a boy.
In the end it was determined that the baby is actually on the big side, which is proof that he is getting all the proper nourishment that he needs.

This was great news… but also made me nervous that I will have a 12 lb baby to deliver!
So in conclusion, my one artery is basically doing the job of two and that doesn’t seem to be causing any other problems.

My Dr. added two more ultra sounds with my regular monthly check ups to monitor and measure growth.

Really?! Really.

March 9, 2012

That’s what runs through my head on a daily basis now days.
After announcing my pregnancy and going public with the gender at work and with extended friends and family. Yes, extended friends. Meaning those people who know me but don’t know that still sleep with my baby blanket and shave my feet.
Wait!
Crap….
Cat’s outta the bag now…
Well, I need to get used to over sharing I suppose, I am about to squeeze a watermelon out of a pin hole
 ( as Snooki says)
for an audience and pretend I have no shame.
Anyway, since going public, I have been faced with  a handful of questions from people.
Things like:
” When are you due?”
“Have you thought about names yet?”
” How have you been feeling?”
Which I think are reasonable things to inquire.
But then we move into that grey area:
” How much weight have you gained so far?”
( Don’t ask a woman her weight)
” Were you a big baby? Do you think he will be big too?”
(Yes, let’s talk about how my lady parts will expand)
” Will you have a natural birth?”
( Everyone needs to keep opinions to themselves, but they don’t)
” Are you going to breast feed?”
( Why, do you want a sample?)
Then there is the ultimate awkward question that I have been asked the most:
“Were you trying to get pregnant?”
This question, although usually meant to be completely innocent, just makes me say
“REALLY? REALLY.”
There is no good answer to this question.
If you were someone who I would be comfortable talking about this with, chances are you wouldn’t even have to ask me this, as you would already know my answer.
So how do I reply to a stranger?
Yes, I was trying.
Now we can stand here awkwardly in the elevator on the way to the office and think about me and my husband in bed together….”trying.”
or
No, I was not trying.
Which is then followed by awkward silence, still trapped on the same dang elevator and you are thinking about how irresponsible and ungrateful I am.
I think with all things considered, I should get the benefit of the doubt.
I am almost 30 & married.
Chances are I was trying.
But, why even go there?!
Everyone should just stick to ” Congratulations!”

How Rude!

March 7, 2012

I found this article on an old MSN archive and thought it was pretty funny and clever.
As a life long Full House fan and John Stamos’s future exwife, I just had to share.
The article starts by talking about Stephanie Tanners tell all book that she came out with in real life
addressing her meth addiction and alcohol.
It then brings up that Jodie Sweetin is probably the least interesting character from the show (True) and if the other cast members were to write a book, what would they each be about?
Here are the suggestions:
This brutally honest autobiography would tell the story of Coulier’s humble beginnings in the Canadian comedy troupe Duck’s Breath to his starring role as Uncle Joey on “Full House” to whatever he’s doing now. And when it comes to his steamy romance with Alanis Morissette, we oughtta know!

TV’s D.J. Tanner teams up with her born-again evangelical brother Kirk (“Growing Pains”) to tell the story of their remarkable childhoods. I’m pretty sure we know Kirk’s story about getting involved in drugs and other Hollywood excesses before finding God, but I’d like to find out if there are any skeletons in Candace’s past. Did she ever collapse on a treadmill while trying to lose weight in real life? Did she have a romantic fling with “Full House” guest star and teen recording sensation Tommy Page? We’re waiting for answers, Candace.
(Does anyone else remember watching that Anorexia movie in high school staring Candace?!)

As Uncle Jesse, John Stamos got to show off his drumming prowess with the Beach Boys and his fictional band, The Rippers, but no matter what he was doing, Stamos was always upstaged his hair. This book would be the untold story of the hunky actor’s battle to climb out of the significant shadow of his well-coiffed mane.

( Neat fact- I saw John play in concert with the Beach Boys at the Puyallup Fair when I was little!)
The billionaire twins talk about their big break playing baby Michelle Tanner on “Full House,” and their eventual resentment (I’m guessing) of their parents for forcing them to spout catchphrases on the sickeningly sweet sitcom. The memoir details the triumphant day when they finally got up the courage to tell their father, “You’re in big trouble, mister.”
(Do you remember when you first found our Michelle Tanner was actually played by two different people? That blew my 1st grade mind)

Ever since becoming ABC’s go-to guy for family entertainment, the “Full House” dad and corny “America’s Funniest Home Videos” host has gone out of his way to tell people how filthy his stand-up act is. We get it, Bob, you’ve got a raunchy sense of humor. But we’d still pick up this book about how he went from playing neat freak Danny Tanner to telling unconscionably dirty jokes at comedy clubs.
( Sometimes instead of God D*mn it, I yell Bob Seget!)

Finally, in the most anticipated “Full House” memoir of all, TV’s Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber) gives a no-holds-barred account of her topsy-turvy journey from lowly commercial actor to breakout sitcom star. But her meteoric skyrocket to fame had it consequences (I’m guessing), as she was forever branded as the annoying neighbor. Foreword by Jaleel White (TV’s Steve Urkel).
(Six from Blossom was my favorite annoying neighbor, no one liked Gibbler)
Did somebody say “Woooooood??!”

Maternity Shopping in the Bargain Basement

March 2, 2012

Last week I realized that my work slacks didn’t really fit anymore.
To avoid maternity shopping, I went to Ross.
I tried on a pair of slacks in the next size up and they were huge on me.
Which was bittersweet.
It made me feel good that I was thin enough for them to fall off of me.
However, it proved that I was going to need to invest in some actual maternity pants because just going up a size wasn’t going to cut it.
I am lucky so far in the fact that I have just gained mostly belly and some muffin top, but the rest of me is still about the same size.
For my Birthday I gratefully received two gift cards for Motherhood Maternity.
What great timing, eh?!
So on President’s day since I didn’t have to work, my mom and I went shopping.
I chose to go to the Motherhood outlet at the Super Mall.
(Which isn’t so super)
There is literally nothing out there anymore.
Not even SBC.
I was able to score an entire wardrobe for a bargain price.
Most of the items I purchased were A Pea in the Pod.
Which usually has pretty high retail prices.
Shopping off the sale racks I got tops that were originally priced at $78.00 for $19.99.
If that’s not a deal, I don’t know what is!
I also got a selection of pants that I will be able to wear into spring and summer.
Before I am forced to wear only Maxi dresses and flip flops because I am so uncomfortable.
Almost all the pants were buy one or get one half price too!
Here are some of the things I picked up!
This cute Charcoal top, I can wear for work or going out.
Works with jeans and slacks.
These two adorable tops.
They are the same cut, just different prints.
There is plenty of room to grow in them and they are lightweight and soft.

This cowl neck shirt.
I noticed on the website after purchasing it that it received relatively poor reviews and complaints that the fabric is itchy.
I didn’t notice that when I tried it on though.
Guess I will have to wait and see.
It is also categorized as a Nursing top, the under layer you see in this photo is just a half tank underneath that can move aside.
I still don’t totally understand how it works though. lol.

All the jeans and black pants I got are Indigo Blue brand.
They fit me great.
I tried on a pair from Heidi Klum’s line that were very nice too, but these just fit a little better.

Boot cut

And Skinny
I also got these comfy green cargo pants that you can wear short

Or long

These soft grey Capri’s

A pair of grey legging with hidden stretch belly
And a pair of tweed work slacks

These are just a few of the items I got.
I couldn’t find pics online of all the clothes Ipicked up.
This was probably the largest clothing purchase I have ever made at one given time though.
I’m not gonna lie, I have bought $200.00 purses and $170.00 jeans in the past.
But never have I racked up a bill of nearly $600.00 worth of clothing in one store at one time!
Luckily after all the BOGOs , sale prices and gift cards I brought down grand total to $350.00!
That is still A LOT, but this hopefully will last me into the summer and if I get pregnant again later on I will be able to reuse most of it.
Yay for tax returns!
