Are those ghost globes in the corner of the photo?
Hopefully we got Ethel’s nod of approval.

Paint Paint Paint
Paint that dresser
Paint that dresser

and some window trim and a bed frame and your art project….

Great idea # 102
We decided to shove dressers into the walls in our bedroom instead of having them take up floor space.
Inspiration:

Dressers I got off Craigslist:

Bentley helping

Repainted:

Now someone needs to haul them upstairs and install them!

Aaaaaand the newly painted bed frame!

Remember it was kinda yellow

Now it will all match!

If I were the Mayor of Renton….

February 23, 2012

I would make some changes downtown.
There is so much potential, but one thing moves in at a time and then struggles and closes.
Then something else makes a go of it.
If we could just get everyone to open shop at the same time, it would be a success!!
So, in my day dreaming and emailing I came up with the perfect DTR scenario.
First of all, I Would LEAVE THE LIBRARY WHERE IT’S AT!
Then I would  put in a breakfast restaurant or PCC type market in the old big 5 place instead of moving the literature further into the hood, where no children have toys to play on.

Secondly,  something would move into the original Armondo’s spot on the corner.
A neighborhood type restaurant that has breakfast all day and uses local ingredients.
Something like Wild Wheat in downtown Kent.
Been there?
It’s delish.
Seriously though, why hasn’t anyone moved in that building yet?!
It’s the best location on the whole street.
Or maybe we need a little home décor/ gift/ flower shop to go in there!
OR!
Even better idea, Liberty cafe’ (Voted best coffee in Renton) across the street needs to move in there and expand and add some food.
Because I need snacks with my coffee.

Then something smaller could move into the old Liberty Café unit next to the tattoo place.
It’s so tiny in there.
That could house….hmmm what would fit in there… I know….A FROZEN YOGURT shop!
 Yes.
That is what needs to go there.
I should be Mayor.

I love the antique stores and Happy Delusions, but i really am craving some more kitsch.
We  need to add in a quirky little shop like
Not a Number
They are kinda like Archie Mcphee but with more functional items.
If you have ever been in Archie Mcphee’s you know how amazing it is, but you can’t find a single use for anything in there!
And last but not least there should be a vintage clothing store.
Something like Red Light maybe?
It could carry vintage home decor too though.

Before I forget, have you been in that Pop Corn store yet?!
I laughed so hard at this place when it moved in.
I mean really, a shop that sells only popcorn… in downtown Renton no less.
I expected it to last a few weeks.
Somehow, it is still there.
Last month I went in….
IT’S AWESOME!
Apparently one of their flavors (White Truffle Bliss) was on Oprah’s Favorite things list and now they ship all over and make all their popcorns right there in the building.
You have to check it out.
It is completely random, but really fun.
What triggered this reorganization of Renton in my head was the opening of a new restaurant that seems to be rather successful in a short amount of time.
Smoking Monkey Pizza.

Which is yet another of good ol’ Gene’s restaurant Ventures.
Maybe we should make HIM mayor.
Actually, I think he might be on City Counsel.
He is pretty much the Tom Douglas of Renton.
Every new place that opens, it turns out he had a hand in.

I ate there.
It was good, a little pricey I thought.
It’s fancy pizza.
They need more sides and salads in my opinion AND Beer.
Which they are working on we were told.

Anyway, there are a lot of great things happening downtown right now and I want to encourage everyone to take the time to try out the new restaurants and go in the shops that make this little neighborhood what it is.
Eat local, shop local, support where you live.
Or move to Ballard.

Aaaaand one more thing:
Can Trader Joes just move into the Landing already?!
I think it’s about time.

“Renton, hey at least we’re not Kent.”

starbust of creativity

February 22, 2012

You might remember this little treasure
I have been scouring the earth for.
June post
Well, i found one at a flea market for 5.00.
The clock inside worked, but leaving it that way was just too predictable for me.
I cleaned it up, gave it a fresh coat of gold paint and found the perfect post card to stick inside.
Close up
Now I just have to convince Steve to let me hang it in the house.

Happy Birthday to Me!

February 16, 2012

Today is my birthday.
I am the ripe old age of 28.
That’s frightening close to 30.

These are lively people, very inventive and enjoy being original.
Aquarians always seem :out of step” with the rest of the world, this is due to their ever striving to be different.
Anything goes with them, and sometimes they can be considered quite eccentric.
Funny thing is aquarians are happy to be eccentric!
Although it can be somewhat difficult to get close to aquarius, this sign is know as “fixed” so that means if you do succeed in getting close, they will be loyal and faithful.
I look forward to my Birthday because of the cake…
And who doesn’t love presents?!

Tonight I will be spending the evening with my family and going out to dinner.
Gone are the days of slumber parties and pin the tail on the donkey.
Now, it’s yearly physicals and counting calories.

Steve already got me my gift.
New bedding for our master bedroom!
I picked it out at Macy’s.
Hotel Bedding Collection:
Transom Charcoal
Can’t wait to put it on our new King Sized bed !!

How Prepared are we?

February 15, 2012

Just what i needed.
Another show to waste my time on.
I happened to DVR this new series out of curiosity.
It was interesting, I didn’t realize how devoted some people are to preparing for Armageddon .
It was fascinating to see all the hours of prep time and stock piling families went through to ensure their survival when the world ends.
Most of them not only had an escape plan, 15 plus years of food and water and a self sufficient energy source, but also a through defense plan as well.
They all knew that the rest of the unprepared people in the world would be coming for them in despair and they were prepared to defend their homes and food supplies at all costs.
I watched this show thinking it was nuts.
I think being prepared for a natural disaster and having an escape plan and survival kit is a good idea.
We should all do that.
However, if the world is coming to an end I have come to terms with going out with a bang.
I really don’t see the point in living inside a metal shipping container and eating canned chicken for 20 years to ensure the survival of mankind… or just to continue living.
What is the point?
In my opinion, when we die, that is not the end.
Although, I don’t want to die anytime soon, I also am not as afraid of death as I once was.
I understand it in a different way than I used to.
So I suppose the idea of leaving the earth for now with the rest of mankind seems like a better option to me than to live on earth without Jersey Shore and Red Robin french Fries.
The next morning Steve asked me what I thought about the show.
I told him I thought what these people were doing was kind of a waste of time.
I think we should be prepared for months without power & have supplies ready in the case that Mt. Rainier blew or a major earthquake happened.
But in the case that the world is coming to an end and it’s like Zombie Land…. I will skip the double tap and bow out.
Steve on the other hand, thought all the views on the show were reasonable and was toying with the idea of submerging our own metal shipping container underground in the back yard.
Like a make shift bomb shelter, where we could store supplies and live if needed.
We could connect it to our basement for easy access.
To which I responded “ Do you think we need a permit for that?”
